Laura Kien, LLMSW
Co-Owner & Co-Founder, Introspective Integrated Therapy, LLC
Hi! I’m Laura Kien, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. It’s an honor to walk alongside people in their journey of healing and self-discovery.
I’m the co-owner and co-founder of Introspective Integrated Therapy, LLC in Mason, Michigan, where we’ve cultivated a warm and welcoming space. Our practice is built on the belief that healing happens in connection—and that therapy should feel like sitting down with someone who truly sees you. Together, we’ll explore tools and insights that can help you better navigate this complex world.
Before becoming a therapist, I served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman and later worked in the Department of Veterans Affairs. This experience allows me to offer care to veterans and military families without the need to "translate" their lives into civilian terms. My medical background also helps me understand how physical health and mental health intersect—especially for those managing chronic illness or pain.
I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Michigan State University and am a Limited License Clinical Social Worker. My clinical internship focused on complex trauma, domestic and sexual violence, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Before earning my MSW, I completed a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a youth emphasis, and worked in substance use treatment and policy development for over five years.
I have a special interest in working with neurodivergent individuals, and I truly believe that each person carries the answers they need within themselves. My role is to co-pilot—to help uncover deep social patterns, challenge what no longer serves you, and remove barriers to growth. My approach is systemic, collaborative, and strengths-based, with an awareness of the structural, cultural, and economic challenges that can shape your experience.
While I tend to lean psychoanalytic and systems-based in theory, I tailor my methods to fit the unique needs of each person I work with.
I’m currently accepting new clients and welcome those with all forms of Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, McLaren, and Priority Health.
I am also able to take private pay clients who may choose not to bill insurance or maybe don't have insurance. I offer a sliding scale for payment based on your income.
If anything here resonates with you, I’d be honored to be part of your journey.
You can email me directly (PREFERRED METHOD) at laura@iitherapy.org.
I take an integrative approach and aim to build a collaborative and trusting relationship in order to serve the unique goals of each individual, couple and family I see. As an individual you should feel heard and understood so that you may live a more confident, fulfilling and authentic life that is true to you as you inherently have the answers you are seeking with some support to identify and overcome barriers. I assist individuals in reaching new levels of safety, intimacy, self-exploration and provide trauma-informed treatment and LGBTQ+ affirmative care. Specific areas of interest include mood disorders, personality disorders, coping skills, addiction, self-harm, grief, sexual abuse, trauma and PTSD, domestic violence, life transitions, gender issues, sexual orientation and peer relationships.
My treatment includes a variety of interventions and theoretical approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, emotionally-focused therapy and attachment-based, somatic, strengths-based and culturally sensitive interventions. It is possible to find fulfillment and authenticity for yourself or within your most meaningful relationships. My focus includes adolescents and adults. My most recent education includes a master’s degree in Social Work from Rutgers University. My goal is to help you thrive, not just survive.
When not at work, I can be found exploring the outdoors, journaling in a coffee shop, shopping for new plants or experimenting with new artistic mediums. If you believe I could be helpful to you or a loved one, please call me at Introspective Integrated Therapy, LLC to schedule an appointment or email at rebecca@jacksoncounseling.org. I am in-network with Aetna, Blue Care Network, BlueCross/BlueShield, Blue Cross Complete, Humana, Ingham Health Plan, McLaren Medicaid, Meridian Health Plan, Optum, Priority Health and Medicare. I will also accept self-pay on an individual basis and am able to bill out of network benefits.
